This is the story of our adventures -- every day and extraordinary; our dreams -- tiny and grand; our gardens -- ornamental and sustaining; this is the story of our journey.  We are a family of four living a mindful, simple life here in Los Angeles County.  We are green, conscious, and forward thinking.  We keep an eye on the past because some of the best things have already been done and bear repeating.  Walk and talk with us, have a glass of wine, taste a peach or a tomato, blow some bubbles and watch them drift up over the canyon ridge.  Enjoy!

A Saturday Ritual

Every Saturday we get a large bag of oranges for squeezing juice all week. When Gregg gets home from the market he squeezes a couple quick quarts to last a day or two. The girls eagerly suck down whatever he'll pour in their glasses. Then the rest goes in the cupboard, er, I mean frig. Oops, Daddy.

Saturday's Farmer's Market Haul

Haven't shown this in a while. Family is sleeping -- a little time to ponder the beauty of life -- of course, I think of food!

Today's bean harvest

Guess I'll be freezing beans tomorrow! This is just TODAY's picking -- I pick every day.

Dinner tonight

I had a feeling tonight's dinner was going to be ultra yummy so I snapped some pics before we dug in. I was right about the yummy part!

I marinated the chicken in the juice of a very ripe grapefruit with some soy sauce, grated fresh ginger, and minced fresh garlic. (Note, if you want to make this dish and use breasts instead of thighs/legs, I would also add some oil.) Then Gregg grilled them to perfection. The rice is jasmine rice (I know, I know, it's white...). I started with a little walnut oil in the pan and heated it on high then added some grated ginger and two thinly sliced baby leaks. Then I put in the jasmine rice and water (forgot salt but that was remedied at the table). OMG, it was heavenly. The carrots are just steamed and drizzled with a little honey. The salad is baby spinach and arugula with thyme and oregano -- all from the garden. For dressing I mixed tahini with some soy sauce and aged balsamic and olive oil. I didn't bother putting herbs in it since they were already in the salad.

The Alex Marincas Juniors in Topanga -- Part 1

As many of you know, my bro Alex, SIL Donna, nephew Danny, and niece Sara arrived at LAX two weeks ago tomorrow for a nice long visit to CA. We all spent a couple days together here in Topanga before heading off for a joint family vacation in the Sierras. When we got back, they all headed down to San Diego for a few days. They will be back tomorrow. This slide show is the first in a series about their visit. First, here they are in Topanga. Shortly I'll post a show of our Sierra vacation and then after they leave I'll do Topanga Part 2.
