This is the story of our adventures -- every day and extraordinary; our dreams -- tiny and grand; our gardens -- ornamental and sustaining; this is the story of our journey.  We are a family of four living a mindful, simple life here in Los Angeles County.  We are green, conscious, and forward thinking.  We keep an eye on the past because some of the best things have already been done and bear repeating.  Walk and talk with us, have a glass of wine, taste a peach or a tomato, blow some bubbles and watch them drift up over the canyon ridge.  Enjoy!

Last Harvest Before We Head North

We are headed to the cabin tomorrow for a 10 days, maybe two weeks.  I harvested a good bunch of lettuce, snow peas, and broccoli to take with us for our time away from the garden.  The shelling peas are finished so I picked the last of those and we'll have them for dinner.  I pulled a small pile of carrots that were eaten raw by the girls!  Since it is my birthday, Alex picked me a lovely bouquet of poppies!

I pulled the shelling pea plants and the girls helped put in a variety of bush beans -- a purple, yellow, and green blend and something called royal purple -- where the peas had been.   I also put in two new small rows of carrots amid the tomato sprawl.  When we get back I'll have to reseed the pole beans and squash as the germination rate was low and the birds also got to them.

Garden Goodness

There's no secret about how Alex likes the garden!

How do things look mid/end of May?

Peas:

Popcorn coming up:

Potatoes:

Peppers:

Carrots, thinning out to make room for tomatoes:

Broccoli, not yielding to the red fruit vines:

Tomatoes growing anyway, needing cages!

Onions, needing to sleep!

New pears forming:

And peaches!

Tomato madness!

A Bubble Life

[Note, I intend to edit this shorter -- take out some of the extraneous pics and shorten the spacing -- I didn't realize I couldn't add more than one song! Been working on it TOO long to not post it and take a break from it!]

Mothers' Day

Alex made me this lovely vase at the Children's Festival today -- LOVE it! And her!

Three Happy Kids!

On the way home from SF last week we stopped on the Central Coast to visit some warm, fun, happy friends!
