This is the story of our adventures -- every day and extraordinary; our dreams -- tiny and grand; our gardens -- ornamental and sustaining; this is the story of our journey.  We are a family of four living a mindful, simple life here in Los Angeles County.  We are green, conscious, and forward thinking.  We keep an eye on the past because some of the best things have already been done and bear repeating.  Walk and talk with us, have a glass of wine, taste a peach or a tomato, blow some bubbles and watch them drift up over the canyon ridge.  Enjoy!

Tastes Like Home

The Bubbles are home.  Sort of... We're at the cabin.

After a trip well-lived and under-blogged, it's nice to lie our heads on familiar pillows for a few nights in a row!  We've been here 4 nights and it has snowed two of those!  Our tans are fading fast, as is probably our Spanish.

We have been enjoying some foods/flavors long missed -- like Ceasar dressing made with real anchovies, baked ham, fresh breakfast sausage, rare beef, true cheddar cheese...  Here in the mountains we don't have access to the array of foods we will home in Topanga, so, we're starting small.

As we settle back in, we are planning our 2010 garden.  Gregg ordered a bunch of tomato and pepper seedlings (no time to start those from seed as I usually do) and I just placed a seed order for everything from carrots to sunflowers.  We'll miss our onions -- didn't plant those before we left because the tomatoes were still occupying their space.  We're hoping that maybe our potatoes self propagated and are curious to see what else may have.  I'm curious in general to see what home looks like.  Has the ash tree spread its progeny far and wide again?  Does Traveler remember us?  Is the fig tree budding?  The peach?  Did the strawberries spread?  The raspberries?

I'm curious to see how "home" feels, smells, and, of course, tastes!

Mixing up a fresh batch of monsters:

Greggie missed oranges -- wait, she's been eating oranges all along...

Snowy morning:

There is no way Alex missed TOMATOES! Maybe good olive oil and sea salt though!

Anywhere they are, funny faces abound!

The girls surely missed Gam!

And Gregg missed good beer.

This is my new compost bin -- I built it yesterday. I didn't miss compost, but I'm happy to be cooking and doing "it my way" again.

Some fresh Sierra mountain images and a happy girl:

I can't believe how old the girls look. I know this is nothing new, but you really do have two little beauties on your hands.

Thank you all! They have grown -- Alex can be such a little lady these days. And Greggie blows me away with what she knows/remembers.

It is such a beautiful journey we are on -- traveling or not.
