This is the story of our adventures -- every day and extraordinary; our dreams -- tiny and grand; our gardens -- ornamental and sustaining; this is the story of our journey.  We are a family of four living a mindful, simple life here in Los Angeles County.  We are green, conscious, and forward thinking.  We keep an eye on the past because some of the best things have already been done and bear repeating.  Walk and talk with us, have a glass of wine, taste a peach or a tomato, blow some bubbles and watch them drift up over the canyon ridge.  Enjoy!

Blue Soup

Today for the girls' lunch I made chicken noodle soup, perfect for a rainy day. I had made stock last night from the roasted chicken we had for dinner, along with the garlic, potatoes, and purple carrots that I roasted too. I made the stock in the cast iron dutch oven. It turned out blue. So was the chicken left on the carcass that I picked off for the soup. Oh well, blue stock, blue chicken. When I got the veggies for the soup I realized I only had one small orange carrot, and several purple carrots. I had no yellow onions, only a purple onion. So, in all the purple stuff went. As the soup was cooking up, it was purple. Very very purple. I added the noodles. They turned purple. By the time I served it to the girls though, it had all turned blue. Fortunately, they thought blue soup was funny.

It tasted exactly like normal chicken noodle soup. Gregg wouldn't eat it though! MEN!
