This is the story of our adventures -- every day and extraordinary; our dreams -- tiny and grand; our gardens -- ornamental and sustaining; this is the story of our journey.  We are a family of four living a mindful, simple life here in Los Angeles County.  We are green, conscious, and forward thinking.  We keep an eye on the past because some of the best things have already been done and bear repeating.  Walk and talk with us, have a glass of wine, taste a peach or a tomato, blow some bubbles and watch them drift up over the canyon ridge.  Enjoy!

Village Green Pictures of the Day - July 10

I hate ants. I live in a house full of spiders. I love them. They are my friends. I cannot abide ants. I did not invite them. I've told them to go. I've killed them. Over and over again. They come back. Over and over and over again. Forget to put the cat food outside when you go to bed? Ants. Not notice that Greggie left a half eaten apple on the counter? Ants. Ants marching in that solid black line from the hole in the skylight to whatever food source we left behind. So Gregg went rooftop to try to seal the hole. And the girls had to follow.

OMG! I should have taken a picture of the ants we had this morning. For the last 4 years our house had been over taken by ants every summer. They come for the water, the food, whatever they can. Sometimes I just live in harmony with them...because I can't get them to go. Other times, like this morning, I go ballistic on them and vacuum them up, spray them with orange spray. 5 minutes later they are back...arg.

I used to like spiders, too. My bedroom was full of them, but one night I saw 3 crawling around on my blanket in the middle of the night. That was the end of the spider filled room.

I despise bugs in my home!! Have you tried putting peppermint oil along the door tracks or where they come in? Ants hate peppermint oil. I have also heard Diatomaceous earth is a good pest control.
